This is a beautiful poem, and I have found it more beautiful as I age and see its depth. I thought I liked it as a young girl but realize now how much of that was just drama and play-acting.
Lydia, love the visual I have of that whaling boat off the Oregon coast and the wind lifting your mother's ashes and setting them down on the grey, rolling sea as you recited these words. That must have been something to experience. Thank you.Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15238905633085051322noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6296096399220838318.post-46621301703763282572008-08-23T18:09:00.000-07:002008-08-23T18:09:00.000-07:00I love thisI love thisLyndahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13288134700542902198noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6296096399220838318.post-56065368530772302982008-08-22T23:46:00.000-07:002008-08-22T23:46:00.000-07:00That is beautiful. That is beautiful.JohnnyandJunehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01095932816141918386noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6296096399220838318.post-30364031707388354642008-08-22T01:15:00.000-07:002008-08-22T01:15:00.000-07:00It caught my breath to see this poem here. Sharing here: my mother died in 2000 (after a full robust life) and my husband and I scattered her ashes off a whaling boat on the Oregon coast as she had requested. We were alone, except for the boat captain and skipper, who were inside the cabin. Suddenly the moment was upon me and I realized I hadn't prepared anything to say, hadn't brought anything to read. What came, from memory, was this poem. It was an astonishing moment in an astonishing moment. I think she would have approved.Lydiahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11135393270656573516noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6296096399220838318.post-42817095001329883652008-08-21T10:31:00.000-07:002008-08-21T10:31:00.000-07:00I posted this once too."one man loved the pilgrim ...I posted this once too.

"one man loved the pilgrim soul in you"

Yes...Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6296096399220838318.post-5610174798936499922008-08-21T10:19:00.000-07:002008-08-21T10:19:00.000-07:00A poem whose beauty has grown richer with the pass...A poem whose beauty has grown richer with the passing years...Sanhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/18245301334922883500noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6296096399220838318.post-90967796501799462482008-08-20T10:35:00.000-07:002008-08-20T10:35:00.000-07:00The is a lovely poem.
