    I just love Polar Bears...and have a huge (really big!) photograph of one that was documented by a National Geographic photog on my office wall...

    Hey DBSO:

    Crazy! I was watching this video the other night. I'm so fascinated by this inter-species communication and play. In fact, I think the guy who wrote a book about play recently mentioned the polar bears and dogs on Krista Tippett's Speaking of Faith show on NPR. I think he called the dogs huskies, which I'm fairly sure isn't right. I think they're Malamutes, but I digress.

    It's wonderful to see you posting again.
    I hope all is well in CinCity -- or have you moved?

I was not raised Catholic. My family attended and had been lectured to in Presbytarian churches and for a short time, Unitarian, but I converted while in college once I started going to the old St. George's with my dorm roommate. It fit me like a glove and I felt at home there despite my ignorance of the exotic rituals and prayers everyone else knew by heart. When I say that I am Catholic I say it with the caveat that I am an American Catholic , which is to say I do not agree with everything that comes out of the Vatican. Sorry. I'll tell you a half-dozen things that happened to me in Indiana when I went that far west to teach. You tell me if it was worth it. I lived in the country with my dog— part of the bargain of coming.
