Saturday in CinCity--the Start of Vacation Edition!!!
Back Yard
by Carl Sandburg
Shine on, O moon of summer.
Shine to the leaves of grass, catalpa and oak,
All silver under your rain to-night.
An Italian boy is sending songs to you to-night from an accordion.
A Polish boy is out with his best girl; they marry next month;
to-night they are throwing you kisses.
An old man next door is dreaming over a sheen that sits in a
cherry tree in his back yard.
The clocks say I must go—I stay here sitting on the back porch drinking
white thoughts you rain down.
Shine on, O moon,
Shake out more and more silver changes.

Absolutely beautiful poem.
ReplyDeleteWishing you a marvelous vacation.
I blame Italy for losing track of you. Today I found you again and LOVE this poem. Thank you.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful poem. Sweet wishes for your vacation.
ReplyDeleteGreat photo, and I love "drinking
ReplyDeletewhite thoughts you rain down."
Beautiful. I need to read more Sandburg. And the photo is exquisite.
ReplyDeleteThis is Carl Sandburg channeling Walt Whitman a bit, isn't it?
ReplyDeleteHey! Enjoy your vacation. Get lots of lake time, OK?
ReplyDeleteWhat an incredible talent you have for finding the photo for the poem... or is it vice versa ?
ReplyDeleteWhichever, a pleasure...
Wonderful. Have a lovely vacation dear Shiny.

Great piece. Happy vacation from a friend of the past.
ReplyDeleteI've been through a rough patch, but am sewing up the pieces and returning to the places I started from.
Loneliness, unemployment, narcissistic blogging and a chaotic city can do this to a girl.
I've missed visiting here.
Ciao
