One Christmas was so much like another, in those years around the sea-town corner now and out of all sound except the distant speaking of the voices I sometimes hear a moment before sleep, that I can never remember whether it snowed for six days and six nights when I was twelve or whether it snowed for twelve days and twelve nights when I was six.

  1. Merry Christmas! We got a dusting of snow here, which was more than expected and less than desired for this day.

  2. Oh, this story is wonderful. I used to teach it, oh so long ago. It's right up there with the Truman Capote story about Buddy and his dear, loopy relative who makes all the fruitcakes. Sigh. Love it.

Happy Christmas. And so much more.

  3. Love your Heckle & Jeckle! Love this excerpt also....sounds a bit like my memories of episodes in my own childhood. Some are not altogether clear. What is clear is that I came wishing you Happy New Year...and thank you for your Christmas comment that made the yuletide bright!

  4. I think I giggled through this at least five times this year . . .

    Happy New Year!
