    I would have put your list of bird-groupings high on my list. A watch of Nightingales; May night in Southern France as the clear songs call and respond from the trees all around the old stone farmhouse. Horses nicker.
    Two things I miss most about "that life".
    I think I have a memory for most of the birds on your list.
    One for sorrow, two for joy, three for a girl and four for a boy. Six for silver, seven for gold, eight for a secret never to be told...Magpies.

    I love your list, now I feel like a slacker because I did not add photos with my list :-). LOVE the last one, was just thinking of him today and how happy I was for him :-).

    Welcome English Rider--lovely comment and I have that book("One for sorrow, two for joy")about crows,though.
    And Annie--it is NEVER too late for pictures or for a different list of loves. Do whatever you like cuz it's all about YOU today:>)

    I saw Mickey Rourke last night on Jay Leno, and was impressed with his humility/sincerity. I can only think of one movie I've seen him in, and I have no real idea what his issues were the past 10 years, but I definitely want to see his next/current movie.

    I want in on this Mickey Rourke, second-chance love fest! I love MR.

    I went to see "Domino" just to see him and always see him in my mind as the low-key arsonist in "Body Heat."

    There was a wonderful article in the LA Times on his struggles and his years in therapy. I wanted to clip it out just as a reminder of, as you so poetically noted, "the miracles of second chances."

    You rock so much that I (re)bought the poet Kenneth Koch's book, "I Never Told Anybody: Teaching Poetry to People in a Nursing Home," once again because I want to write a poem and I owned that book when I was living my first chance.


    I'm dying to see "The Wrestler."

I'll tell you a half-dozen things that happened to me in Indiana when I went that far west to teach. You tell me if it was worth it. I lived in the country with my dog— part of the bargain of coming. And there was a pond with fish from, I think, China. I felt them sometimes against my feet. Also, they crept out of the pond, along its edges, to eat the grass. I'm not lying. And I saw coyotes, two of them, at dawn, running over the seemingly unenclosed fields. And once a deer, but a buck, thick-necked, leaped into the road just-oh, I mean just, in front of my car— and we both made it home safe. Goldfinches by Mary Oliver

Some goldfinches were having a melodious argument at the edge of a puddle. The birds wanted to bathe, or perhaps just to dip their heads and look at themselves, and they were having trouble with who should be first, and so on. So they discussed it while I stood in the distance, listening. Perhaps in Tibet, in the old holy places, they also have such fragile bells. Or are these birds really just that, bells come to us--come to this road in America--let us bow our heads and remember now how we used to do it, say a prayer. Meanwhile the birds bathe and splash and have a good time. Then they fly off, their dark wings opening from their bright, yellow bodies; their tiny feet, all washed, clasping the air.
