The Heavenly Banquet

Celtic poem from 10th century Ireland

I would like to have the men of Heaven
In my own house:
With vats of good cheer
laid out for them.

I would like to have the three Marys,
Their fame is so great.
I would like people
From every corner of Heaven.

I would like them to be cheerful
In their drinking.
I would like to have Jesus too
Here amongst them.

I would like a great lake of beer
For the King of Kings,
I would like to be watching Heaven’s family
Drinking it through all eternity.

please note: some attribute to St. Brigid

  1. I certainly do appreciate this. A refreshing look at St. Pat's indeed!

Had a CT scan of my head this morning; wish me luck that all they find is my brain!

  2. I love this poem. I'm sure St. Brigid didn't write/say/do everything that's attributed to her, but she's a pretty amazing lass.

  3. Lydia--I hope everything is okay. I'll be checking in on you.
Erin and lakeviewer--hope your day brought you all the luck of the Irish:>) We pinched everyone at work who didn't wear green, but then again, we pinch them everyday.

  5. I can't believe I didn't cook for today. Well, yes I can. I can't find my pots and pans. In the spirit of the holiday, I got carry out from my favorite Arabic restaurant. At least the parsley in the tabouleh was green. Ha. Happy St. Patricks Day.
