March...

"When the snow went away--in a rush, just as it came--it left behind the lawn, the garden, the pastures, the barnyard. It also left behind locust pods, fallen branches, last falls's leaves, snowplow scrapings, mire, and muck--the debris of a disordered season. The snow's erasure has itself been erased. Everything is matted to the earth or anchored in the mud except the ridges an eastern mole has made while tunneling round and round. The early buds seem desperate just now. Nothing else catches the hint of spring from them."------Verlyn Klinkenborg, The Rural Life

  1. This pretty much sums up what is happening where I live right now.
    My yard is a mess!

  3. Spring, hurry. Summer, linger, won't you?

  4. I live in the desert...nothing is matted here. Just dusty, crusty and dry. By next month the heat will be upon us. I envy you your beautiful emergence of Spring. Rejoice in it!!!

  5. This describes much of what is in our yard right now! I had Abby out in the front yard late last night and she kept stumbling in the grass. I reached down in the dark to feel the obstruction and it was a mass of small branches and twigs that had blown off of the two birch trees in some recent wind. I cleared them the next day, as the crocus and daffodils are out and don't need competition for space.

  6. Yep, was like our yard too until I took matters into my own hands and worked my butt off over the weekend to clean up the yard and edge. The edging was easy; cleaning up after the edging nearly did me in!
And it went down to 33 last night in eastern NC, so I fear for our buds!

  7. It's kind of like that in NE Ohio. But the quality of the light is different. The songs of the birds and their change of color let me know that change is in the air.

  8. Your snow went away - we just got 20cm dumped on us. Sigh....

  9. Lucky you! Your spring is arriving and our winter is coming. Although our winters here in the Limpopo (SA) cannot honestly be called winter if compared to yours. Although I am going to miss all the green during the yellow winter months.
